Cathedral City Council talks changes to vacation rental ordinance

At Wednesday night’s Cathedral City Council meeting, the short-term Vacation Rental Task Force suggested revisions to the current vacation rental ordinance. The task force is made up of residents, city staff and leaders in the vacation rental industry.

Recommendations include prohibiting apartment units from being used as vacation rentals and increasing the fine for violations. The council voted in favor of the changes, but it still needs an additional vote by the council on April 12.

If approved, the law would go into effect on May 12.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 will continue to track the potential changes as the council reconvenes for the additional vote.
