Organizations meet to discuss future of healthcare in Palm Springs

The Desert Healthcare District held a conference at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs Thursday to discuss their healthcare plans for the next three years. The Desert Healthcare District held a special board meeting on Thursday from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm and will be hosting another on Friday, March 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Desert Healthcare District is a publicly funded agency that provides health services to a large chunk of the west Valley and today we learned they have hopes of expanding.

The organization is holding a two day meeting to nail down a strategic plan for the next 3 years.

President Carole Rogers says the board is looking over analytical data and prioritizing which parts of Valley healthcare need the most attention.

One of their main goals is to expand to the east Valley.

“We would cover almost 2/3 more of the territory and people in the Valley and hopefully alleviate some of the desperate healthcare needs in the east Coachella Valley,” said Rogers.

As house republicans postpone the vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Rogers says thousands of their clients may be affected.

“I would hope that congress would look at the affect that would have on removing that large number of population. Not only on our community health center and hospitals, the preventative services offered that saves lives,” said Roger.

Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Herb Schultz, says public input is vital to their plan.

Their next meeting will be held at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs tomorrow from 8 am to noon. The public is welcome to attend. The district is urging people to call or email them with input. (760) 323-6110
