Wind causes major damage across Coachella Valley
Windy weather is causing problems across the Coachella Valley. Trees and power lines have been downed by heavy wind gusts, knocking out power to nearly 2,000 customers in Palm Springs, the ANA Inspiration LPGA golf tournament was delayed until about 9 a.m. Friday in Rancho Mirage, and one person was critically injured after a tree fell on a golf cart in Palm Desert. Village Fest was also canceled Thursday night in Palm Springs as 80 mile-per-hour wind gusts are possible through 11 p.m.

And the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was closed at 4 p.m. temporarily while about 400 people are safely being brought down from the top, according to Greg Purdy, spokesperson for the tramway.
A power outage in south Palm Springs is effecting 1,386 customers on East Palm Canyon Drive near The Parker Thursday afternoon. Firefighters told KESQ and CBS Local 2’s Joe Galli that residents in south Palm Springs need to stay inside unless they absolutely need to be out, due to downed trees and power lines throughout the area.
A tree was uprooted on Fred Waring Drive, just west of Adams Street at about 2:30 p.m. And KESQ and CBS Local 2 has confirmed that power lines are down in Palm Springs due to the gusty wind conditions. The downed power lines are located near the Horizon Mobile Park at 3575 East Palm Canyon Drive.

Joe Galli is out covering the weather right now and he saw a tree that had been uprooted by the wind and fell onto a golf cart at 18885 Golf Club Drive, critically injuring one person. Another person sustained minor injuries.
