Homewood Suites Robbed, Security Video Posted To YouTube
LA QUINTA – Security video taken December 8th shows two men walking the halls of the former Homewood Suites looking for open doors.
They find one by an ATM.
One man searches a dark room. He takes what looks to be a TV or a computer monitor. The other carries out a box filled with unknown items.
And they weren’t done. They’re seen taking garbage can is full of stolen property.
Someone posted the video on You-Tube. It says the duo stole a TV, computer and other items. The video also gives a case number and phone number for Riverside County Sheriff’s Department hoping someone will come forward with information.
The property owner, Richard Oliphant says the burglary happened in the 2 to 3 hour window in between security guard shifts. Oliphant says the security company adjusted their schedules to make sure there’s someone on site during those hours.
Tony cortez works at the nearby ApplebeeCortez says he sees security patrolling the area daily.
“Everytime I get here at 6 in the morning, 5:30, we always see security here. Police come around here they’re cruising around. So it’s pretty safe. I don’t feel uncomfortable or anything like that,” says Cortez.
Oliphant says he doesn’t recognize the men and doesn’t think the burglary is an inside job.
It’s unclear who posted the security video on You-Tube but police say it hasn’t interfered with their investigations. So far few leads. It’s the only burglary to happen at the former hotel since it closed in August.
“Pretty much a lot of cops going around here in the morning with the hospital being built here,” says Cortez. “So I’m really surprised about it.”
Police don’t have a detailed description of the men. Call police if you have any information.
