Local Law Enforcement Cracking Down On Drunk Drivers

PALM DESERT -Palm Desert Police are out making the streets safer ahead of the holiday weekend.
They held aDUI checkpoint last night on Monterey and Country Club.
It ran from from 9 p.m. Fridaytill 2 a.m. Saturday.
During the checkpoint,police screened more than 400 vehicles and made 15 arrests.
Two drivers were arrested for DUI.
The other 13were arrested for driving with an invalid license.
Fourteen vehicles were impounded.
Nine people were arrested at a sobriety checkpoint held in Palm Springs, police announced Saturday.
The checkpoint was conducted Friday night at East Ramon Road and Cerritos Drive, said Mitch Spike of the Palm Springs Police Department.
Of the 547 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint 467 were screened, Spike said.
Nine people were arrested, he said. Four drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence and five for having suspended licenses.
Officers issued citations to 10 unlicensed drivers, and four other citations were issued for “miscellaneous infractions,” Spike said.
There were 17 vehicles impounded that night.
In Coachella, more than 1,100 vehicles were screened at Grapefruit Boulevard and Avenue 49.
Two people were arrested.
One for public intoxication the other for DUI.
Fifty-threeothers also received citations.
Ninevehicles were towed.
In Rancho Mirage, nearly 600 vehicles were screened on Bob Hope Drive and Gerald Ford.
A total of 7 arrests were made.
TwoforDUI andfive for not having a valid license.
Sixvehicles were impounded.
Frequent checkpoints are being held state-widein a holiday crackdown to try and keep drunk drivers off the streets.
