Desert Hot Springs Wants To Keep Public Safety Tax

DESERT HOT SPRINGS -The City of Desert Hot Springs has just announced a public safety tax will be on the June ballot.

Voters approved raising the tax back in 2008 giving the city $1.5 millionto hire more police officers and save for a new fire station.

Police Chief Pat Williams added more officers to the gang and drug task force and more officers on the streets.

A 2008 survey conducted by the city showed almost 80% of people in Desert Hot Springs were willing to pay higher taxes, but the slumping economy may change voters’ minds.
