Community Gathers To Clean Local Park
Police and local volunteers will clean up a Coachella park tomorrow as part of a law enforcement effort to increase quality of life in the city.
The clean-up is set for 8 a.m. Saturday at Dateland Park at Shady Lane and Medina Street, said Lt. Frank Taylor of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
City officials, officers and volunteers from the Rotary Club of Coachella East will remove graffiti and other trash from the park and on nearby Shady Lane, which will be the site of a mural that will extend on the roadway from Bagdad Street to Avenue 52, according to Taylor.
The event is part of “Operation Safe Coachella,” which seeks to strengthen neighborhood and police partnerships and send a message to criminals that the city is working to increase the quality of life within the community, Taylor said.
Shady Lane will be blocked in front of the park, where police vehicles and a new Citizens on Patrol car will be displayed, he said.
Officers will be on hand to to interact with residents in order to “generate a greater trust and connection with the police,” according to Taylor.
