Indio Newlyweds Return Home After Carnival ‘Spleandor’ Docks
An Indio couple’s honeymoon came to a grinding halt Monday morning when a fire broke out on the Carnival Splendor.
The cruise ship lost power for four days and left passengers without hot food or hot water.
The ship was finally towed into the San Diego Bay Thursday and the Halsey’s were among the thousands onboard.
The Halsey’s said they were thrilled to finally see their disastrous trip come to an end.
They’ve known each other for almost 8 years have two young children.
This was their first vacation alone and their first time away from the kids.
They said they were without hot food and water the entire trip.
The couple roomed in the back of the ship and their toilet didn’t start working until Wednesday.
So, they had to walk to the front of the ship each time they had to use the restroom.
The fire started on Monday morning and both expected the problem would get fixed that day.
“We were still hoping to make our first excursion,” said Jennifer Halsey, a newlywed. “We had scuba planned and that was what we were really looking forward to and we were like, ‘oh, we just hope we make that,’ and then, you know, didn’t realize it was gonna turn into so many days.”
“Jennifer’s been working hard for a good year or so, getting it all planned and put together, and the wedding went off very well,” said Evan Halsey, a newlywed. “It was the dream wedding for what we could pull off, and the honeymoon definitely, definitely left something to be wanted — that’s for sure.
The Halsey’s got married in their backyard on Sunday.
They are supposed to be refunded for the trip within seven days.
They will also receive a voucher for a free cruise.
But they haven’t decided yet whether or not they will go cruising again.
