Coachella Valley Unified School District Superintendent & Assistant On Paid Leave

Superintendent for the Coachella Valley Unified School District Ricardo Medina and Asst. Superintendent Rick Alvarez have been put on paid administrative leave, according to the district secretary.

Asst. Dr. Darryl Adams and Asst. Jamie Brown will be taking over their responsibilities in the interim.

The decision to put them on paid administrative leave happened during closed session of a school board meeting on Thursday evening, and was announced by the CVUSD Board President Maria Machuca.

In a statement obtained by News Channel 3’s Mike Daniels, she said, “The Coachella Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees took action last night to place Supt. Ricardo Medina and Asst. Supt. Richard Alvarez on paid administrative leave until further notice. We are not at liberty to discuss any specifics, since this is an ongoing personnel matter and we must all appreciate the privacy of these individuals.

“The Board wants to assure our community that we are wholly dedicated to continuing to provide the very best education for our children, and, until further notice, our Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Darryl Adams and Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Mrs. Jamie Brown will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the District. We will be having a Special Board meeting on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 6:00 pm. Thank you.

The agenda for Monday’s meeting can be found here.
