Illegal Explosives Found In Car Stopped South Of Beaumont

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cherry Valley man on Sunday after they found what they called explosive devices inside his car.

Sgt. Bob Epps said deputies spotted the car speeding away from the scene of a brush fire in the hills south of Beaumont at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

After pulling over the driver, Zackariah William Borynack, 22, of Cherry Valley, they found several items in the vehicle that they thought looked suspicious.

The county’s hazardous device team arrived and determined the items to be illegal explosive and improvised explosive devices.

Investigators found more explosive-related items at Borynack’s home in a search conducted Sunday evening, said Epps.

Epps said there is no indication at this time that Borynack was behind the fire that was burning in the area.

Borynack was arrested and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility and faces possible charges of possession of explosives, possession of a destructive device and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
