AIDS Assistance Program Holding Fundraiser In Palm Springs

(CNS) – The AIDS Assistance Program will hold one of its main fundraisers Sunday night, with music by British R&B and soul singer Maxine Nightingale.

The 16th annual Jeannette Rockefeller Angel Program Kickoff Party, named for an AIDS Assistance Program founder Jeannette Rockefeller, starts at 5:30 p.m. at The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn.

“The Angel Program Kickoff Party is the traditional start to the philanthropic season here in the valley. It’s a very important evening for our organization,” said Mark Anton, executive director of the AIDS Assistance Program.

Nightingale performed in musicals in London’s West End before launching her solo singing career. Her song, “Right Back Where We Started From,” was a breakout hit in both the United States and United Kingdom, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The AIDS Assistance Program, started in 1991 by a group led by Rockefeller, Gloria Greene and Joanna Jakway, provides meals to low-income people affected by HIV/AIDS, according to Anton. “We currently have more than 500 clients who rely on us for food twice each month — and a waiting list for services — so donations from the community are critical,” he said.
