Indio Gas Leak Closed Roads, Caused Concern

Indio police blocked access to Jackson Street between Ave, 48 and Dr. Carreon Blvd. for three hours on Monday morning due to a gas leak in the area, said a police spokesperson.

The leak was first reported shortly after 7:15 a.m. when several people called Indio police claiming they could smell natural gas, said Ben Guitron, spokesman for the Indio Police Department.

Crews were able to find out the leak underneath the northbound lanes of Jackson Street, just south of Dr. Carreon Boulevard.

Traffic was being re-routed around the affected area, while crews capped it.

The Gas Company is now investigating to see what caused the leak.
