Smartphone App Tracks Kids On Halloween

Worried your child might get lost, or even worse on Halloween?

Not to worry, because there is a smartphone app out on the market meant to ease your concerns.

The app is called the Trick or Tracker 2.0 — an upgrade from last year’s model.

Parents can install the app on their pre-teen’s smartphone and keep an eye on them from the living room couch.

A lifetime license to the app costs $4.99.

Parents can locate their child with the click of a button, and the app will then send an address and a map to mom and dad.

Plus, every 15, 30, or 60 minutes — however, interval you set it, the app will send the location to you automatically.

“It’ll ease parents’ mind, and its a comfort,” said Melinda Miranda, a Palm Desert mom with two boys — ages nine and four.

She took the family shopping for costumes at the Spirit Halloween Store in La Quinta.

Miranda was impressed by the Trick or Tracker.

The function allowing her to set a trick or treating boundary for the kids caught her eye.

“I have an iPad, and I am a technology user,” said Debra Lee, who has two grown children, but still believes the app is a waste of money. “If they had a cellphone anyway, then they would say, ‘Well, I’m here,’ and tell me where they were, and then I’d say ‘OK, turn left,’ or give them directions home.”

Imari Nicholoff’s daughter, Kadyence, 5, is autistic and too young for a smartphone.

But as a year-round-app, Nicholoff said it could help her family out in the long run, “because there’s trackers for children also but they’re pretty expensive — like $50 for like a wrist thing.”

But for parents who don’t need the app for the entire year — you’re in luck.

It will be free of charge all day on Halloween.

Trick or Tracker is now available for download from the Android Market, at Iconosys.com, and at TrickOrTracker.com.
