Cathedral City Homeowner Holds Burglar At Gunpoint

A homeowner held a burglar at gunpoint early today until police arrived and arrested him, a sergeant with the Cathedral City Police Department said.

Anthony Cullen, 40, of Cathedral City, was arrested shortly after midnight when officers found the homeowner walking the suspect out the front door of the residence at gunpoint, said Sgt. Andrew Diaz.

The burglary was reported at the residence in the 100 block of Via Valverde inside Date Palm Country Club, which is located at the intersection of Gerald Ford and Date Palm Drives, Diaz said.

“Officers were informed that the homeowner was detaining a suspect at gunpoint,” he said.

Police said they discovered another suspect had escaped. He was described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic man, wearing a dark-blue hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and black sneakers with white shoelaces.

Cullen was booked at the county jail in Banning on suspicion of residential burglary, vandalism and disorderly conduct. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Those with information about the second suspect were asked to call the Cathedral City Police Department at 760-770-0303.
