Skydiver Dies In Perris Fall
An experienced 32-year-old Canadian skydiver has died from a hard landing at Perris Valley Airport, the fourth skydiving fatality at the facility this year.
Michael Ungar, 32, of the Canadian province of Ontario was killed Tuesday, apparently while landing after a difficult aerial maneuver, said Riverside County Sheriff Sgt. Sergio Rodriguez. The accident was reported just after 2 p.m. on the south end of the field, located at 2091 Goetz Road.
Witnesses said the victim’s parachute opened but he had trouble controlling it.
“He came to a stop in a shallow pond on the property and his friends removed him from the water,” Rodriguez said. “Medical personnel were summoned and CPR was performed. Ungar succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”
According to the Riverside County Fire Department, paramedics arrived to find Ungar not breathing and immediately started CPR.
“He was very a experienced skydiver, thousands of jumps, and is particularly involved with a part of the sport called swooping, which is high performance canopy flying, which has an added risk to it,” fellow skydiver Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld told ABC7.
Three people died and one person was seriously injured in three skydiving accidents at the airport earlier this year, according to the Press- Enterprise
