Winds Leave Palm Springs A Disaster
Winds versus Palm Springs – the desert knows who won.
“I’ve never seen anything like this to be honest with you.”
Power lines down all along Gene Autry closed the street from the freeway to Vista Chino.
Downtown Palm Springs fared no better.
“I just couldn’t believe it. People were running into the store for cover,” Babs Jackson of Jenell’s Boutique said.
Kaiser Grill took a beating-with a room full of diners.
“A tree came crashing down, and people ran up to the glass and I said,’Please get back, get to the back of the restaurant.’ It felt almost like a hurricane tornado coming through,” Kaiser Grill General Manager Dan Ferrante said.
Cars in a parking structure on the corner of Escoba and Highway 111 also took a brutal hit.
“One of my neighbors called my girlfriend and said trees were falling down, car parts were going down. We got back to see al of this but luckily, about four parking spaces over from where my girlfriends car was it just missed ours we got lucky enough, unfortunately some people weren’t so lucky.”
Windows had no shot against the gusts. Winds sucked windows in at the Palm Springs Gym.
Man versus nature – sometimes we don’t stand a chance.
