Mobile Home Residents Remember Slain Neighbor
At a gathering of Parkview Mobile Estates residents, a silent prayer was held for fellow resident Ken Moody. The 74 year old’s body was found on the side of the road in an unincorporated area of Sky Valley more than a week ago.
45-year-old Jason Brokken of Palm springs was later arrested at Moody’s home. He pleaded not guilty to a murder charge late last week.
“Ken Moody, a good neighbor, a good friend. Ken, he cared a lot about people. He was always trying to help someone,” said Parkview resident Don Cook.
Following the memorial for Moody, Parkview residents held an action plan meeting to exchange ideas on how to make the mobile home park safer after a rash of recent criminal activity.
Just hours earlier, police made two arrests at the park involving possession of drugs and stolen property.
“We’ve had break-ins, we’ve had forced entry,” said Parkview resident Paul Washington. “It’s just escalated in the last six months.”
According to residents, homeless congregating in the park has been a big part of the problem.
“You can get in everywhere here. There’s no patrol, no security,” said Parkview resident Sue Volkman. “It’s very sad. Very sad.”
During the action plan meeting, people living in the park became frustrated while discussing their proposals to improve security. The problem they say is that the park’s management company has been unresponsive to their concerns.
“The property management company needs to be more diligent. With what their doing and providing, it’s not even really adequate,” said Cook.
The property management company referred to is James Management in Palm Desert.
News Channel 3 attempted to contact the owner Anne James, but she didn’t return our phone call.
In the meantime, all residents can do at this point is be good neighbors and immediately report to police any suspicious activity they see.
