Kraft Nabisco Championship Booms In Business

Top notch golfers from around the world took their final swings Sunday in the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Tournament director Gabe Codding said nearly 60,000 fans were out at Mission Hills during the week. Also, with ticket sales, food, and merchandise — business was booming.

“Right now, if we’re not meeting we’re beating last year’s numbers,” said Codding.

Also, golf fans shared some of their memorable highlights of the tournament.

“Seeing Yani Tseng, she’s unbelievable to watch,” said Theresa Durand, of Phoenix.

It being a ladies weekend, some men say he could learn a thing or two.

“Absolutely, I love to watch them swing. They make it look so easy and effortless, I wish my swing was like that,” said Valerio.

It helps when more fans are making the trek to the desert year after year for the world-class tournament.

Organizers also gave some insight into the great things to look forward to next year, including a milestone — celebrating the 25th anniversary of the “Champion’s Plunge” into Poppie’s Pond.

“It’s grown over the years, we’ve had some amazing jumps so we’re going to look to really highlight that and really feature that jump being the greatest tradition in golf,” said Codding.

For some fans, they say the tournament is a tradition they wouldn’t miss.

“We’ll be back to see who’s going to defend the to the title!” said Valerio.

At the end of Sunday’s championship round, the sponsor Kraft Foods announced the donation of a million meals to the hunger relief charity Feeding America.
