Rep. Mary Bono Mack Holds Town Hall Meeting At Eisenhower Medical Center

In the fight against prescription drug abuse, local congresswoman Mary Bono Mack has been out in front of the issue.

Tuesday at Eisenhower Medical Center, Bono Mack held a town hall meeting to discuss the prescription drug abuse problem in this country and what can be done about it.

Bono Mack, a co-chair of the congressional caucus on prescription drug abuse, is currently pushing two bills in Congress that would help ensure powerfully addictive prescription drugs are only prescribed for their intended use.

“More people die every year now from prescription drug overdose deaths than die in car accidents,” said Bono Mack. “We can really tackle this, we can address it. I know we can’t save every life out there, but I know we can make a dent. Thirty thousand American’s dying every year, it’s not acceptable.”

Bono Mack recently sent a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown encouraging him to support a Good Samaritan law in California.

It would encourage people who witness an overdose to hang around and call 911 for help, rather than flee the scene.
