7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Felt In Mexico City

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook the peninsula of central Mexico on Wednesday, shaking the earth 240 miles away from the epicenter, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Broadcast reports from Mexico City indicate major shaking was felt and high-rise buildings were swaying.

The quake hit at 3:55 p.m. PDT about 16 miles from Arteaga, Mexico, which is roughly 240 miles from the center of Mexico City.

The shaking was felt in the cities of Guzman, Colima and Zamora, according to the USGS shake map.
