Cathedral City Accident Victim Identified

A Bell Gardens man who died when his sport utility vehicle veered off eastbound Interstate 10 and overturned in Cathedral City was identified today by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Juan Alfredo Perez, 32, died in a crash around 5:30 a.m. Monday about a mile west of Bob Hope Drive. A Ford Expedition heading east on I-10 “at a high rate of speed, left the roadway for unknown reasons and subsequently overturned,” California Highway Patrol Officer Joe Zagorski said.

Perez, who was the SUV’s lone occupant and who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene, Zagorski said.

Zagorski said it was not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, which was under investigation.
