A homeless Washington man was recovering today from being hit by a car and thrown into the windshield of another on Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
Someone reported a crash about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of South Palm Canyon Drive. When officers arrived, they saw a 56-year-old pedestrian lying in the road, Palm Springs police Sgt. Troy Castillo said.
“The pedestrian was walking southbound in the No. 2 lane of South Palm Canyon at the 300 block for unknown reasons,” Castillo said. “He was struck by an unknown car, which caused his body to be thrown into the path and into the windshield of 1987 Mercedes Benz 300E, which was traveling southbound in the No. 1 lane.”
The first vehicle drove off and there was no description of it, Castillo said.
The driver of the Mercedes stopped and was not cited. Neither the Mercedes driver nor the pedestrian appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, the sergeant said.
The pedestrian was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with a possible concussion and scrapes, Castillo said.
