SunLine dedicates new learning center

SunLine Transit Agency was set to dedicate its new Learning Center Thursday morning.

The former Zweig Educational Building will display “innovations in transit pioneered by SunLine over the past four decades,” SunLine spokeswoman Kathleen Bennett said. The ceremony was scheduled for 11 a.m. at SunLine, 32-505 Harry Oliver Trail.

Nine exhibits at the learning center will show SunLine’s alternative fuels movement, including an El Dorado bus cab, agency vehicles from 1977 into the future, renewable energy, CNG, hydrogen, hydrogen fuel cell technology and intelligent transportation systems, Bennett said.

“As we have gained knowledge and experience throughout the years of providing public transit using alternative fueled vehicles, it is important to share that knowledge,” said SunLine General Manager C. Mikel Oglesby.

“As a leader in clean air technology, SunLine brings the experience of the past, to the present and into the future. We are excited to share our experiences through our new SunLine Learning Center.”

SunLine is a joint powers authority formed in 1977 to operate the Coachella Valley’s public transportation system.
