‘Evening Under the Stars’ seen as fundraising success
People gathered in Palm Springs Saturday to hear music from Cyndi Lauper, enjoy the stars and raise money for the Aids Assistance Program.
“It’s fantastic. One, for a good cause. Two, setting and great entertainment,” guest Ed Winter said.
About fifteen hundred people perused artwork and other silent auction items at the 20th Annual ‘Evening Under the Stars’ gala at the O’Donnell Golf Club in Palm Springs.
The glamor and elegance was all for one goal – the Aids Assistance Program.
“They raise money to give food vouchers to people with HIV/AIDS throughout the Coachella Valley. Wonderful organization provides people with food, what we need the most,” event producer Larry Abel said.
This fundraiser falls at the start of a time when people need the basics the most, too.
“The summer is very hot here as you know, the people in need it’ll help them financially, greatly.”
This cornerstone gala budgets a majority of the AAP’s efforts. Of the many events in the desert, some people say this is one of those most special.
“I think the cause. To help feed the families and people with AIDS,”
The event has a history of some pretty fabulous performances – from the Gogo’s to the B-52’s and this year, the incomparable Cyndi Lauper.
“You’ve got this wonderful entertainment against the backdrop of the mountains and under the stars. Where else can you get that other than Palm Springs?” Abel said.
