High school teacher arrested after having sex with teenage boy

Redlands Police arrested a 28-year-old high school teacher Monday evening, accused of having sex with a teenage boy who fathered a child with the teacher.

Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst was arrested at about 8:45 p.m. Monday, July 1, after questioning at her home in Redlands. Whitehurst is a teacher at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, where she was anadviserto the then-16-year-old student. The boy is now 17.

The sexual relationship began last summer and continued for nearly a year. The victim’s mother reported the relationship to school officials who called Redlands Police on Monday.

Whitehurst gave birth to a child June 18. Investigators say the child was fathered by the teen.

Whitehurst was arrested for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and released after posting $25,000 bail Monday evening.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.
