29 Palms residents spend Independence Day at Luckie Park

The importance of the Fourth of July isn’t lost on people living in 29 Palms, home to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center.

In fact, when it comes to celebrating Independence Day in 29 Palms, some families
get to Luckie Park as early in the day as they can.

U.S. Army veteran Bill June camped out under a tree to reserve the spot where his family has spent the holiday for the last 10 years.

With the Marine base so close by, June never forgets to use the holiday as a time to remember the men and women who put their lives on the line every day, fighting for our freedom.

“It’s just awesome the job they do with one war after the other, their backs against the wall the whole time, and they’ve struggled through it, and it’s awesome. And I do say thank you,” said June.

June had his hands full with 14 grandchildren at the park, all no doubt looking forward to the fireworks show scheduled for 9 p.m.
