Brush fire burns nearly 300 acres in Riverside

A brush fire has burned nearly 300 acres of a Riverside wilderness park but no homes are threatened and no injuries have been reported.

The blaze began shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday in Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park. More than 100 firefighters were trying to reach the flames in steep terrain and were aided by two helicopters and four air tankers.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports the fire had blackened about 280 acres. Full containment was expected by late Friday.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.
