Man killed after confrontation with police in Indio

An Indio police officer has shot and killed a suspect, who reportedly had a gun, near Auto Zone on Highway 111 and Monroe.

The Shooting happened, just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, after Indio police got a call for service, about a suspicious man with a gun in the area. The suspect was located west of the Auto Zone, next to Jack in the Box.

Indio Police Public Information Officer Ben Guitron says, that the officer approached the suspect, and some sort of altercation occurred and the officer fired his weapon. The suspect was shot, and later died.

The parking lot of the Auto Zone and Jack and the Box were shut down for hours while detectives investigated the shooting. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will be in charge of the investigation.
