Riverside County sheriff’s deputies kill motorist
Authorities have killed a motorist who allegedly hit the gas and drove toward a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy.
It’s at least the seventh time that law enforcement officers have killed a suspect in the county since June 1.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the 29-year-old Norco man was killed about 3:15 a.m. Sunday after a sheriff’s deputy pulled him over in Norco.
Sgt. Lisa McConnell says the driver was stopped because a deputy thought he may have been wanted on an arrest warrant but as deputies were speaking to him, the motorist suddenly put the car in gear and accelerated toward a deputy.
He was shot and died at a hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies and Indio and Riverside police previously shot men during chases, a shootout, and other confrontations.
