HWY 111 repaving project to begin Monday

The repaving of Highway 111 in Palm Desert willbegin Monday and is expected to continue for about two months, a city spokesmansaid today.

All of Highway 111, a major thoroughfare, will be resurfaced in PalmDesert, along with part of Portola Avenue from Fred Waring Drive to MagnesiaFalls Drive. Work will start on the east end of Highway 111 and move west, cityspokesman David Hermann said.

Motorists can expect delays, and traffic will be reduced to one lane inboth directions during the day. Lanes will reopen once the day’s work is done.Additional periodic lane closures will be implemented for restriping and otherfinishing work, Hermann said.

“This summer project is designed to prevent more extensive andexpensive repairs in season, when Highway 111 is more heavily traveled,” hesaid.

The work will cost around $3 million, he said.
