Riverside County HazMat Team called to Thousand Palms neighborhood for suspicious substance

A 2-and-a-half hour hazardous materials incident in Thousand Palms ended when the Riverside County HazMat Team determined substances found in a neighborhood were non-hazardous, a Riverside County Fire Department spokesman said today.

The incident was reported at 12:09 p.m. Sunday at Datil Way and Via Ventana, said Riverside County Fire Department spokesman Mark Annas.

Firefighters told the residents of the closest home to stay indoors and keep their windows shut, Annas said. Other nearby homes were not evacuated.

“The Riverside County Hazmat Team analyzed the substances and determined them to be non-hazardous,” Annas said. Riverside County Environmental Health took possession of the substances and the incident was declared over at 2:40 p.m.
