Shoppers line up around the valley for Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving

“We’re going to have turkey delivered to us,” said Jordan Rosas, who is first in line at the Target in La Quinta. He has been waiting there since yesterday.

People waiting in lines for Black Friday deals do anything to kill the time. Big box stores around the nation saw shoppers camp out as early as weeks before Black Friday. In the valley, the earliest shoppers we met queued up a few days ago.

“It’s a little boring just waiting until Thursday,” said Joell Gavan who is in line at Best Buy in La Quinta with part of his family.

“We’re scavenging for food, scavenging for sleep,” said Jesse G. who began camping out in front of Best Buy in La Quinta three days ago with some of his friends.

“It was quite an experience, I’ve never done it,” said Esther Chick, who is second in line at Target in La Quinta with her grandchildren.

Americans spent 11.4 billion dollars on Black Friday in 2012 and many retailers expect that number to grow this year.

Rosas has a carefully planned budget for when the doors open at Target tonight at 8 p.m.

“A 50-inch TV for $230, a Nook for $80, a phone for $20 and 2 XBOX live cards for $20,” Rosas said.

And he’s not complaining about the hours of downtime or being away from his bed.

“It’s my first time here and it’s pretty cool, I think so. I got a good night’s rest, I slept in the car,” Rosas said.

Some shoppers even made waiting in line a family occasion.

“me and my brother and my dad we’re planning on getting some phones,” Galvan said.

And when we asked what mom thought back at home:

“She’s kind of excited because she’s getting a phone too,” Galvan said.
