Annual Indian Powwow begins Friday in Indio

The annual Indio Powwow will start Friday at the Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Tribes will participate in dances and singing and games during the three-day event. There will be at least one “grand entry” on each day of the event, when dancers form a procession. The powwow is sponsored by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians.

There will be Native American foods, such as Indian fry bread, along with crafts, jewelry and art.

The powwow will start at 5 p.m. today, and the grand entry will take place at 8 p.m. On Saturday the powwow will begin at 11 a.m., with the grand entry at 1 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. On Sunday the powwow will begin at 11 a.m., with the grand entry at 1 p.m.
