Jeep slams into school bus, man taken to hospital

A school bus carrying four high school students was hit by a Jeep in Beaumont on Monday. Police said the crash happened just before 8 a.m.

Authorities said a bus with the Beaumont Unified School District was stopped on the south shoulder of Cherry Valley Avenue, just west of Fabian Street. A Jeep, driven by 26-year-old Ryan Shaw, was traveling about 60 MPH when he drifted into the shoulder of the road.

The Jeep hit the right rear corner of the school bus and Shaw was seriously injured in the crash. He had to be extricated from the vehicle by Cal Fire. An emergency medical crew took him to Loma Linda Medical Center with life-threatening head injuries, according to CHP.

There were no passengers in the Jeep. The school bus driver, adult passenger and four students on the bus weren’t hurt in the crash.

Police don’t know what caused Shaw, a Cherry Valley resident, to drift from the road. They said he wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

CHP is investigating the crash.
