Roads back open after water main fixed

A large water main leak was reported at Monterey Avenue and Gerald Ford Drive Tuesday morning.

Crews with the Coachella Valley Water District worked throughout the day to make repairs. The cause of the break was an old pipe that needed to be replaced, water district officials said.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported the leak after a large puddle of water began to form at the intersection around 7 a.m. CVWD turned off the water line but homes in the area continued to receive drinking water without interruption, according to district officials.

Traffic on Gerald Ford Drive was reduced to one lane in each direction while crews worked to fix the water main. One northbound lane of Monterey Avenue was shut down as well. The roads were back open around 4:30 p.m.
