Roads reopen after strong wind advisory

Roads in Palm Springs and Cathedral City were closed due to strong wind gusts that created low visibility from blowing sand Friday morning, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Gene Autry Trail was closed between Via Escuela and I-10. Vista Chino Road was also closed between Gene Autry Trail and Carmela Drive.

Both roads were back open to drivers around 8:40 a.m.

Drivers and pedestrians were asked to avoid the areas early Friday morning as a safety precaution. People were asked to use Indian Canyon as an alternate route to Gene Autry and Ramon Road or Dinah Shore instead of Vista Chino while the roads were closed.
