Don’t press your luck on St. Patrick’s Day

Police will run a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Palm Springs on St. Patrick’s Day, a police spokesman said Thursday.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 9 p.m. Monday to 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at an undisclosed location in the city. Officers will check for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment and for proper licensing, according to Sgt. Harvey Reed.

A DUI arrest can result in jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, he said.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
