3 Desert Hot Springs residents arrested

Three Desert Hot Springs residents were arrested after one of them was accused of stealing from the Walmart in Palm Desert.

Police said 25-year-old Jamail Hughes was charged with burglary and possession of stolen property after taking tools and toolboxes from the store located at 34500 Monterey Avenue on March 2.

A few days after the theft, the investigation led police to a residence in the 66000 block of 6th Street in Desert Hot Springs.

Authorities recovered the stolen property and arrested Hughes and two other people at the residence. Officers said they also found a large amount of methamphetamine and other stolen property from a home burglary in Desert Hot Springs.

Alejandro Ortiz and Virginia Ruiz, both 31, were the two additional suspects taken into custody.

Deputies said Ortiz was charged with sales and transportation of methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and for an outstanding felony narcotics warrant.

Ruiz was charged with sales and transportation of methamphetamine as well, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
