Judge orders medical test for Cristin Smith

One of the two men accused of a triple murder in Pinyon Pines has been ordered by a judge to undergo medical tests because of a growing lump on his chest.

The attorney for Cristin Conrad Smith said the judge told him he needed to be seen by a doctor by August 8. Smith’s attorney made the request because there’s speculation the lump could be male breast cancer. He wants his client to undergo an MRI.

The judge said if it’s not done by August 8, he’ll issue an order to show cause about why he hasn’t been seen by a doctor yet.

All of Smith’s motions are set for August 22.

Smith and co-defendant Robert Lars Pape were arrested in March and charged with the Sept. 17, 2006, killings of Vicki Friedli, 53, her boyfriend Jon Hayward, 55, and her 18-year-old daughter, Becky, at their Alpine Drive home.
