Mission Hills condo destroyed by early morning fire

A condominium unit was destroyed in Rancho Mirage Monday morning and an attached unit sustained minor smoke damage in a two-alarm fire that caused around $1 million in damage, authorities said.

The fire at 34880 Mission Hills Drive was reported at 3:31 a.m., said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson. “One condo unit was completely destroyed, with minimal smoke damage to the second condo unit,” Hendrickson said. The destroyed unit was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived, she said.

Firefighters had the flames out at 4:46 a.m. and planned to remain on the scene several hours putting out embers, Hendrickson said.

The loss was estimated at $1 million, she said. No injuries were reported and, notwithstanding the destruction of a unit, no one was displaced by the fire, Hendrickson said.
