Family safe after house fire in Desert Hot Springs

A family of 3 and their 3 dogs are safe tonight after a fire broke out at their home just after 5:00 p.m. Friday night.

It happened in the 68000 block of Whitney Court in Desert Hot Springs, just West of Mountain View.

The family says the mother was lying down in the house when her son smelled smoke. He opened the door to the garage and saw flames and then went to tell his mom.

The garage was engulfed in flames by the time they got a hose to fight the fire.

There’s no word on a cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
