Concussion tests administered to high school athletes

The Sports Medicine program at Desert Regional Medical Center’s Institute for Clinical Orthopedics & Neurosciences (ICON) provided baseline concussion testing for Xavier College Preparatory High School football players on Saturday. They used a test called ImPACT, a computer-based test that measures verbal and visual memory, processing speed and reaction times of the student athlete. If a concussion is suspected during the season, the baseline test can be compared with a follow-up test so a physician can assess potential changes or damage caused by a concussion.
