Golf tournament benefits Desert Sands Unified School District

Golf enthusiasts hit the links Saturday for a cause.

They teed off at the “Golfing for KKids” tournament at the Bermuda Dunes Country Club. The event was hosted by the Desert Sands Unified School District.

Proceeds go to the district’s K.I.D.S Measure KK Bond Campaign, a ballot measure aiming to help maintain the quality of schools in DSUSD without raising tax rates.

Some golfers included the students themselves, who say enjoyed cooler weekend weather.

“It stared really windy with a lot of dust, but its actually gotten really better,” said Ashton Reyes.

If passed, Measure KK will only be used for specific facility projects included in the DSUSD’s detailed project list to help construct, renovate and update facilities and equipment.

“Our schools are, I think, premiere schools of California and we have great facilities and great instruction programs,” said Charlene Whitlinger, Measure KK Bond Campaign co-chair. “Our test scores are up and we would like to continue that by providing the kids with the best learning environment that we can.”

No Measure KK funds can be used for administrator salaries.

Measure KK is supported by a coalition of teachers, principals, parents, homeowners, business and community leaders.
