Breast cancer awareness lectures offered for free

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and experts at Eisenhower Medical Center will be offering free lectures to provide the most up-to-date information so patients and their families can make informed decisions about their health and treatment options.

Health officials said the lectures are open to the public and will be held at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center, located at 39000 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.

Experts in various specialties including diagnostic radiology, occupational therapy, radiation oncology and medical oncology will provide important information and updates on topics that matter most to breast cancer patients and survivors.

“Eisenhower is proud to offer breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones our free community lectures,” said Alison Mayer Sachs, director of community outreach and cancer support services. “Being diagnosed with cancer, having a loved one diagnosed with cancer or having been through treatment can be daunting.”

Breast Reconstruction after Mastectomy: Making an Informed Decision Thursday, October 2, 5:30 to 7 p.m. – Frederick Eko, MD, Plastic Surgery, light dinner, register by October 1.

Benefits of Yoga for Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors – Monday, October 6, 2 to 3 p.m. – Jayne Robertson, Mind-Body Program Manager of the Eisenhower Wellness Institute, register by October 3.

Treatment of Advanced Stage Breast Cancer – Tuesday, October 14, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Amy Law, MD, Board Certified in Medical Oncology, light lunch, register by October 13.

Sex, Intimacy and Breast Cancer – Wednesday, October 22, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Nina Grace Ruedas, Desert Center for Sexuality Awareness, light lunch, register by October 21.

Bone Health for Breast Cancer Patients – Tuesday, October 28, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Richard Fausel, DO, Director, Eisenhower Osteoporosis Clinic, light lunch, register by October 27.

Treatment of Early Stage Breast Cancer – Wednesday, October 29, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Iliana Popescu, MD, Board Certified in Medical Oncology, Peter Schultz, MD, Board Certified in General Surgery, Monica Khanna, MD, Board Certified in Radiation Oncology, light lunch, register by October 28.

Lymphedema and Breast Cancer – Thursday, October 30, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Danielle Meglio, COTA/C, MLD/CDT, Occupational Therapy, light lunch, register by October 29.
