Big-rig fire shut down I10 at Date Palm Sunday morning

A big rig heading westbound on the I10 westbound just east of Date Palm caught fire around 1 a.m. Sunday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The driver, hauling refrigerated chicken, detached his trailer from his cab before the fire could spread to the contents.

All tires on the back of the cab blew out or melted as a result of the fire, though it is unknown at this time how the fire started. CHP shutdown all lanes of the I10 westbound while they put out the fire and cleaned up the wreck.

The driver was not hurt.
