Trick-or-treaters injured in Phoenix
Authorities say five people, including two children, were hit by a car while out trick-or-treating in Phoenix.
Phoenix firefighters say the group was crossing Bethany Home Road near 41st Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Friday when a sedan heading eastbound struck them.
Fire officials say a 23-year-old woman in a wheelchair, a 25-year-old man, a 10-year-olld girl and a 2-year-old boy are hospitalized in critical condition.
Another was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
The 75-year-old driver stopped and remained at the scene.
Authorities say the victims were not in a crosswalk but the area was fairly well-lit and at least two people were dressed in bright-colored costumes.
Phoenix police spokesman Jonathan Howard says a preliminary investigation indicates the driver failed to yield.
Howard says criminal charges are unlikely.
