Girl stuck in fireplace at Riverside County home

A girl tried to climb down the chimney of a Woodcrest home, got stuck in the fireplace and was injured today, firefighters said.

Her identity, or even her general age, were not released.

Firefighters were called at 4:58 a.m. to a home in the 15800 block of Rancho Viejo Drive, where they found the girl had become trapped in the 12-foot by 12-foot fireplace after climbing down from the roof, Riverside County fire officials said.

Rescuers worked two hours to free the child, then took her to a hospital with injuries described as minor to moderate.

Sheriff’s officials said the girl was a friend of the homeowners, but no other details were immediately released.
