Free tire recycling event this Saturday

Unwanted tires can be a major eyesore and safety hazard.

The City of Coachella in partnership with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments is hosting a free tire recycling event Saturday 1/10/15 from 8 a.m. until noon at Bagdouma Park, 51723 Bagdouma St., Coachella.

“We have a tire recycle event this Saturday, it’s open to all the residents of the Coachella Valley, and folks can bring in the tires that they have or tires that have been a nuisance around the neighborhood,” says Jacob Alvarez the Assistant to the City Manager of Coachella.

The following restrictions and limitations apply:

People can only transport 9 tires at a time, but can make as many trips as they want
Tires must be removed from the rim
No semi truck or semi trailer tires accepted
No agricultural tractor or construction equipment tires accepted
No tires accepted from businesses or non-profit organizations

“Sometimes tires attract rodents and insects, plus it’s a petroleum based product, so sometimes it starts leaking into the ground, and obviously we are concerned about the aquifer,” says Alvarez.

Volunteers will be on hand to help people take the tires out of their vehicles.
