Indio man arrested after high-speed chase leads to crash

Five people are recovering after a high speed chase ended with a two car collision early Thursday morning in Indio.

According to the Indio Police Department, 19-year-old Juan Antonio Beltran of Indio was driving a stolen 1997 Honda Civic southbound on Golf Center Parkway when he ran a red light and crashed into a Lexus at the top of the I-10 off ramp.

The front of the Lexus struck the right side of the Honda in the intersection.

Police said Beltran had two female juvenile passengers with him in the stolen car, and all three of them were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. One of the juveniles sustained major injuries in the crash, while Beltran and the other passenger only sustained minor injuries.

Beltran was arrested after being released from the hospital and was booked into the Riverside County Jail. He’s facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, violating his probation, evading police on the wrong side of the road and evading police causing serious injury, according to the Indio Police Department.

The two victims in the Lexus were taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in pain, but weren’t seriously injured.

Officers said alcohol and drugs didn’t appear to be factors in the crash.
