Vista Chino reopens after van collides with bicyclist

Palm Springs police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit by a van on Vista Chino Thursday morning. Officers said the collision happened around 9:30 a.m. in the area of North Gene Autry Trail and East Vista Chino.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the 34-year-old male bicyclist seriously injured in the westbound lanes of Vista Chino, just east of Gene Autry.

The man was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Express van that hit the bicyclist stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.

East Vista Chino was closed in both directions at the wash while the Palm Springs Police Department investigated the collision. The road reopened at 1:10 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and officers said it’s unknown at this time if speed or alcohol contributed to the collision.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at (760) 323-8105.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will have more information pending the outcome of the investigation.
